Plumber Training

A Plumber is a person whose occupation is to install pipes and to repair and maintain them. You should have the required skill and knowledge if you want to be a good plumber. Not many people like to become plumbers, as it is not a very glamorous job, and you might have to clear clogged pipes and toilets and even deal with human excreta. However, if you have the skill and the interest, then choosing a career as a plumber is a very good option, because plumbers are in great demand and you can earn good income, too.

Plumbing is a specialized job, so you have to undergo a training program to become a specialized plumber. Sometimes it is very difficult to find a good plumber, so you can learn the trade by joining the training programs, and then start your career as a plumber. There are many institutions and organizations offering these training programs, and you have to choose a reputed institution and join. Once you have made up your mind to join the training program, you have to get admission to the organization, which is not as easy as you think. Initially, you have to take a common test conducted by the organization, which assesses your measurement and calculation skills. The training program can last three years or longer, depending on the specialization. Short-time courses are also offered by many institutions.

Plumber’s training programs consist of both theoretical and practical training. The programs teach you to read blueprints, mathematics, applied sciences, the basic principles of plumbing and how to use the equipment and instruments necessary for the plumbing profession. During your training program, you will work with professional plumbers and learn about different types of pipes, and how to install and repair them. Once you have completed training, you will obtain a recognized degree from the training school based on written tests and demonstrations, where you have to prove your ability and succeed.

Plumbers have excellent career prospects. Wherever there are pipes to be laid, plumbers are needed; and due to shortage of plumbers, the wages of plumbers have been increased in countries like India. Due to the demand for plumbers, plumbers can earn much more than college professors can. You can train to be a pipe fitter or pipe layer. You can either work on your own, or you can join some contracting company. Since there is always a requirement for repairing pipe lines, a plumber will always find work.

If you are above 18 years old and you have three years experience as apprentice plumber, you can become a licensed plumber, by sitting for the license exam. Most companies prefer licensed plumber.
